Residents in the Mayville-Portland area were without power portions of Friday, June 4 through Sunday, June 6 due to an equipment issue at an electrical substation, Xcel Energy officials announced in a release.

Customers notified the company of an outage Friday night after a passing thunderstorm rolled through Traill County.

Roughly 1,600 households in Mayville and Portland were affected by the outage, which overlapped with a heat wave in the Red River Valley that saw temps climb into the upper 90s over the weekend.

Xcel Energy crews restored power to more than 1,100 residents early Sunday and the remaining 450 customers regained power around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, company officials said.

“We recognize it’s a very hot weekend, and crews are doing all they can to get power restored as quickly and safely as possible,” a company-issued statement said Sunday.

“We thank our customers for their patience and understanding.”
