Norman County West alum Beth Christianson-Melby of Hillsboro, top, chats with a friend at the final home game for the Panthers in Halstad in March 2018. The Minnesota district is closed its high school the next school year.

Hundreds of school alumni will descend on Halstad, Minn., this weekend.

An all-school reunion for Halstad and Norman County West begins tonight (Friday) with a 9 p.m. dance at the Halstad Legion Recreation Center.

Beth Christianson-Melby, chair of the all-school reunion committee, said more than 200 people are expected for the event, with alumni from as far back as 1942.

“This was supposed to happen last year, but with COVID we couldn't hold it,” she said. “When we got the go-ahead from the Minnesota governor in late May, we started planning.”

Christianson-Melby said the all-school reunions are slated to happen every five years, with typical years drawing in nearly 700 people from around the country.
