More than 80 loan applications have been processed by Hillsboro banks participating in the Hillsboro Business Association’s annual Christmas cash campaign.
Representatives from The Goose River Bank and Dakota Heritage Bank said Monday that the holiday promotion – which allows borrowers to take out $1,000 loans and receive $100 free from the Hillsboro Economic Development Corp. – remains popular in its 33rd year in Hillsboro.
Brenda Klath, a loan officer for The Goose River Bank, said the new coronavirus sweeping the state hasn’t had a negative impact on this year’s loan applications.
However, the virus has caused changes in the availability of certain items residents are shopping for locally this fall.
“We had someone who wanted to buy a snowblower but couldn’t get one” due to supply issues stemming from COVID-19, Klath said.
“COVID is affecting some of the purchases people are trying to get.”
The Goose River Bank processed 40 loan applications for $40,000 through noon Monday.
