The Buxton City Council agreed Wednesday to move ahead with a lighted flag memorial on the outskirts of town honoring the city’s late mayor, Gene Rosholt, who died in December.
Mayor Travis Soderberg said he hoped the $9,500 project could be wrapped up in time for Buxton Improvement Group’s Family Fun Day penciled in Saturday, July 10.
“It would be nice to have (a ceremony) on its own but it could be included in the city celebration because Gene was a big part of the town,” Soderberg said.
Soderberg said he’d like to fundraise for the project and reimburse the city for the expenditures approved Wednesday so taxpayers aren’t on the hook for the bill.
