The Traill County Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday to delay the start of a civil jury trial that had been slated to start April 20 at the Traill County Courthouse in Hillsboro.
Traill County State’s Attorney Charlie Stock told county commissioners Tuesday that he had concerns about staffing at the courthouse – Traill County Deputy Clerk of Court Heather Nygaard plans to step down soon to take another job – and the courthouse’s ability to socially distance potential jurors.
In addition, Clerk of Court Jodi Schill told the county board that her daughter recently had been diagnosed with COVID-19 and that Schill could miss work in the days leading up to the trial.
Stock said 30 Traill County residents could be called as potential jurors in the case, which involves a slander complaint made by Roger Anderson of Hillsboro against five defendants.
