The Buxton City Council will open talks Wednesday night centered on filling the leadership role left by the recent death of Mayor Gene Rosholt.
Rosholt, 71, died Dec. 16 at a Fargo hospital after serving as Buxton’s mayor for nearly 30 years.
Travis Soderberg, a Buxton City Council member, said city leaders expect to meet with their attorney Wednesday night to map out a strategy for replacing Rosholt, who was elected to a four-year term in June 2020.
Those options could include picking a replacement to fill out the remainder of Rosholt’s unexpired term or holding a special election, possibly in June, to select a new mayor.
