A pair of Hillsboro residents announced write-in campaigns this week in hopes of winning seats on the Hillsboro City Commission next month.
Nicole Evans and Brent Mikkelsen will be seeking election to the five-member city commission in the June 14 primary, joining incumbent Dave Sather as candidates in the upcoming race.
Sather previously filed for office in April in hopes of securing another four-year term on the commission.
Fellow City Commissioner Levi Reese decided not to refile for his seat in order to challenge incumbent Terry Sando for president of the commission.
Reese’s decision – coupled with the fact only Sather filed for office prior to the April 11 filing deadline – means Hillsboro voters will need to elect a write-in candidate for the city commission in June for the first time since 1980.
Evans and Mikkelsen started making their campaign pitches to voters earlier this week.
Evans, 44, said Monday that her extensive background in business and willingness to bring balance to difficult conversations could benefit the city commission.
