The Traill County Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday to seek cost estimates to convert the boilers in the Traill County Courthouse in Hillsboro to natural gas.
County officials approved a minimum-use agreement in October 2019 with Dakota Natural Gas to support the company’s $8.5 million pipeline under construction that will serve Hillsboro and Mayville.
Dakota Natural Gas Chief Executive Officer Greg Palmer previously indicated during a stop in Hillsboro that he expected the pipeline to be completed this fall.
But County Commissioner Tom Eblen of Hillsboro asked county staffers to begin work preparing for the pipeline following a relatively mild winter that could allow the project to be wrapped up sooner.
“We should be bringing someone in to get a more detailed analysis of what it would take” to convert the courthouse’s boilers to natural gas, Eblen said.
