George Blum’s grandfather wanted his grandson to become a math teacher so badly that he paid the Nebraska eighth-grader to solve math problems over his summer vacation.
Blum didn’t end up following in his granddad’s footsteps as a math instructor.

Blum will mark his first day on the job as a history and social studies teacher at Hillsboro High School when fall classes resume Tuesday, joining two other instructors – Lance Podoll and Kari Tweten – making their teaching debuts in the district.
