Kiddies cozied up to Kris Kringle and spent the afternoon creating crafts and sipping cocoa during the Hillsboro Business Association’s annual holiday celebration Sunday.
HBA President J.R. Strom said organizers were thrilled with the turnout for this year’s winter wonderland festival.
The event had been held for years inside the Hillsboro city armory but HBA members decided this fall to move the event outdoors to downtown Hillsboro.
“We couldn’t have asked for better weather for the event and we had a great turnout,” Strom said. “Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun and we had a lot of positive comments from people who were there.”
The carnival was followed by a downtown light parade, which had fewer than 10 entries but plenty of people lined up along the parade route.
“There were a ton of kids who came out to watch. I probably should have brought more candy,” Strom said.
Strom credited HBA’s volunteer Christmas committee for its role in making this year’s carnival a success.
“They really deserve a lot of credit. We owe them a big thank you,” he said.
Strom also thanked Santa Claus for taking time away from his toy manufacturing business to come to Hillsboro so soon before Christmas.
“We were able to contact him and get him booked early,” he added.
