The Hillsboro Economic Development Corp. will need to push the pause button on spending money from a half-cent sales tax OK’d by Hillsboro voters in November.
HEDC board members had expected to start receiving revenue from the sales tax, estimated to generate as much as $80,000 annually, in July.
However, J.R. Strom, a board member and attorney with the Ohnstad Twichell Law Office, informed the board Monday that due to the state’s tax deadlines, the tax won’t start being collected until July 1.
That delay means HEDC shouldn’t expect to see any tax money until September, Strom said.
