A countywide mask mandate put in place by the Traill County Board of Commissioners will remain in effect despite the expiration of a similar state mandate.
Gov. Doug Burgum allowed the statewide mask mandate he introduced in November to expire at 8 a.m. Monday amid a drop of COVID-19 cases across the state.
County officials debated Tuesday whether Traill County’s mandate, approved by commissioners Nov. 3, should continue indefinitely.
County Commissioner Les Amb of Portland proposed the county follow Burgum’s lead and drop its mask mandate.
“Removing the mandate doesn’t mean (people) have to stop wearing them,” he said.
