The Traill County Board of Commissioners will take a wait-and-see approach before deciding whether to divvy out a portion of its federal CARES Act funds to cities in the county.
After visiting on a conference call with city officials from Hillsboro, Mayville, Portland and Hatton, county commissions on Tuesday asked those cities to compile a list of coronavirus-related expenses they’ve incurred since the start of the pandemic.
If the county has untapped CARES Act funds in 2021, the expenses may be covered by CARES Act money the county has received but not yet spent.
“I think we should entertain expenses from each city individually but should only consider expenses directly related to COVID-19,” said County Commissioner Ken Nesvig of Buxton.
