Scott Olsen at 2021 Shrine Bowl

Hillsboro-Central Valley head coach Scott Olsen, right, led the 11-man East team to a 28-21 win over the West during the Shrine Bowl June 19, 2021 in West Fargo.

The 9- and 11-man North Dakota Shrine Bowl games will be held in Mayville in 2022.

Mayville State President Brian Van Horn announced this week that the university had been selected to host the all-star football showcase at MSU’s Jerome Berg Field next June.

“This is fantastic news not only for the university, but also for the community,” Van Horn wrote in his weekly column sent Monday to the Hillsboro Banner and Traill County Tribune.

Van Horn told the Traill County Economic Development Commission in July that MSU officials were planning to make a bid to bring the all-star games to campus.

The university and the MSU Comets football program have hosted Shrine Bowl practices in the week leading up to the 9- and 11-man games the past nine years.

But MSU had never been under consideration to host the Shrine Bowl until this year.
