The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development has awarded the city of Hillsboro a $585,000 loan and a $466,626 grant to help pay for a new water main serving the city across Interstate 29.

The funds also will be used to cover the costs of a new sanitary sewer pipeline that extends to the city-owned lagoons north of Hillsboro.

U.S. Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) announced the funding for Hillsboro – along with loans and grants totaling $526,250 for Beach and $2.54 million for New Salem – in a release April 22.

“Today’s investments will help improve water infrastructure and provide residents of these three communities with sustainable water for years to come,” Hoeven said.
