Organizers have canceled Buxton’s Family Fun Day two and half weeks prior to the event.

Members of the Buxton Improvement Group announced Wednesday on Facebook that the city’s annual summer celebration, which had been scheduled June 25, was being called off in 2022 but would return in 2023.

Buxton City Council member Ben Hershey told fellow council members Wednesday night that the one-year hiatus was prompted by a shortage of volunteers needed to carry out the event.

“We didn’t have enough people who were willing to commit to it,” Hershey said.

“The challenge with events like this is that it usually comes down to a core group being willing to oversee everything and we didn’t feel there were enough volunteers to pull it together this year.”
