The Hillsboro City Commission on Tuesday held off on approving a liquor license for a downtown microbrewery that could open in the city as soon as next month.

City Commission President Terry Sando, one of the co-owners behind Goose River Investments, asked city leaders in October to sign off on a liquor license for his brewery, which remains under construction at 24 W. Caledonia Ave. at the former site of the Hillsboro Banner building.

City commissioners gave conditional approval to a license for Goose River Brewing last month, but the move was contingent on the brewery passing a local fire and health inspection.

Separate from the city license, Sando submitted a request to the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office seeking an alcoholic beverage license from the state.
