Members of the Buxton City Council on Wednesday raised concerns over motorists speeding in town and had preliminary talks about creating an official Facebook page for the city.

Mayor Travis Soderberg said recent citywide road improvements in Buxton evened out the ride for cars traveling in the city but may be leading to a few too many lead feet in town.

“It’s beautiful to have these nice, smooth streets but you don’t realize how fast you’re going now,” Soderberg told council members.

Soderberg said he worried that the increased speeds pose greater risks to children playing along city streets, especially for young families living along Greely Street on the west edge of town.

Council members agreed to place “Slow children at play” signs along Greely Street and reach out to residents about whether more signs are needed elsewhere.
