Despite an expected first-day enrollment of roughly 500 students, the Hillsboro school board was told not to expect a significant enrollment bump within the next five years.
Demographer Rob Schwartz with RSP Associates said slow growth is forecast in the school district while new developments are beginning on the west side of Hillsboro.
But he added that enrollments of more than 500 students could become routine if the city’s Riverwalk and Jordahl housing projects grow quickly over the next five years.
“I don’t think 40 units are going to be built in a year. I think it’s going to take a little bit of time for that,” Schwartz said.
“So enrollment for this forecast, we think, is going to be stable to slightly increasing."
