The municipal pool in Hillsboro’s Woodland Park could be open in time for the Hillsboro Days celebration in mid-June, city officials said Monday.

Floodwaters from the nearby Goose River spilled over an earthen dike that surrounds the outdoor pool following heavy rains in late April.

But Jim Anderson, Hillsboro’s director of public works, said Monday that city crews raised or removed the pool’s critical electrical equipment once the river reached 13.7 feet – about 5 inches below the height when floodwaters top the dike.

“Everything of importance was taken out or elevated. … All the motors and heaters are above water level,” Anderson said.

“The guys have done this so many times that they know the routine. Everyone goes onto a trailer and is in storage.”
