The MayPort-CG School Board on Wednesday hired Icon Architectural Group of Grand Forks to begin making preliminary plans for a music addition to the north side of Peter Boe Jr. Elementary School.

Superintendent Mike Bradner said the proposed expansion remains in the discussion stages and the project may not break ground for one to two years depending on construction prices in the region.

However, the elementary school needs more room for music classes and storage space that an addition, estimated to cost around $750,000, could provide, Bradner said.

“We’re hoping to be able to bid the project after the first of the year but we will have to see how bids come back,” he said.
