Hillsboro-Central Valley’s boys cross-country team enters the season filled with veterans.

Most of the 23 athletes on this fall’s team have been with the program a handful of years.

Head coach Kirk Zink said a solid team is made up of two parts: “top-end studs and depth.”

The good news is the Burros appear to have both.

Leading the pack for H-CV will be seniors Chase Fossum and Luke Leshuk.

Zink called the pair “two absolute dynamite athletes. Both are terrific workers.

“We truly couldn’t ask for any more out of these guys in terms of how they work both in season and out of season.”

Fossum enters the season as a multiple all-state and all-region pick who earned a ninth-place finish at the 2018 state meet.

Zink said he hopes Fossum can improve on that finish in his final season with the team.
