CASSELTON – Jackson Anderson’s first personal record in two years led Hillsboro-Central Valley to a first-place finish in Casselton on Tuesday.

Anderson jumped out early and led the entire race, finishing in 17:10, two seconds faster than his previous record set his sophomore year.

“I just tried to keep the same breathing rhythm and lengthen my strides since I’m a little taller than everybody here,” he said.

“If I could just stride out even farther inch by inch I knew I could gain a pretty good lead and keep the pace.”

H-CV’s boys varsity team ended Tuesday’s cross-country meet with a 51-point win.

“It’s nice because we hope to get better and better as the season goes on,” said H-CV head coach Kirk Zink.

“We don’t always bring varsity kids here, so we never really get to see how our varsity kids are progressing, but it’s nice to see them push themselves.”

Henry Nelson, making his H-CV debut after transferring from Dickinson, finished fifth in the race in 17:56.
