HOPE, N.D. – MayPort-CG head coach Adam Sola and the Patriots kept opposing tailback Jack Ihry in check and trailed by only six after three and a half quarters Friday, Sept. 13.

But Ihry, the bruising Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page running back and University of North Dakota commit, finally broke free midway through the fourth quarter.

Led by Ihry’s late 68- and 28-yard touchdown runs, the Spartans (4-0) beat the Patriots 34-14 to hand MPCG (3-1) its first loss of the season following a hard-hitting showdown in Hope.

“For the most part I thought we did a pretty good job on Ihry,” Sola said. “He had one long run, but other than that I was happy. We just had a slow start to the game.”

The Spartans (4-0) wasted no time showing off for their hometown crowd.

Fresh off an opening kickoff return down to the Patriots’ 33-yard line, F-S/H-P took an early 6-0 lead on a 3-yard dive into the end zone by junior quarterback Owen Zerface.

After back-to-back record-setting outings by Patriots running back Sammy Satrom and quarterback Sawyer Satrom, the Patriots had trouble getting their running game on track last Friday.
