MAYVILLE – Fifteen minutes in the penalty box couldn’t keep Zak Kennett from being a difference-maker Monday.

The Red Lake Falls, Minn. junior forward tallied a goal and two assists as the Eagles skated past MayPort Area 5-2 at Kim Braaten Memorial Arena.

Kennett, who picked up a five-minute checking-from-behind penalty as well as a 10-minute misconduct in the first period, helped the Eagles rack up five unanswered goals against the Ice Dawgs.

“We needed to capitalize on their five-minute major,” said third-year MayPort Area head coach Dave Bjugson. “Especially since it was against their best player. That was kind of a turning point there.”

The Ice Dawgs sailed a puck wide and were unable to capitalize on Kennett’s first-period five-minute major in the first period. However, after a scoreless first period, MayPort Area took a 1-0 lead early the second.
