Kaitlin Ensign drained four second-half 3-pointers for a team-high 12 points to lead Hillsboro-Central Valley to a 40-33 win over MayPort-CG on Jan. 3.

The senior guard opened the third quarter with back-to-back triples and connected on another long-range bomb in the closing minutes to seal the seven-point win for the Burros.

“Kaitlin works really hard, so I was happy for her,” said Burros head coach Tony Guttormson.

“We tell the girls they have the green light to shoot if they are open as long as they are not forcing things. That’s what we want.”

The Burros (4-5) and Patriots (1-6) struggled to score early in the first game for each club in 2020. H-CV led 10-6 after the first quarter.

“We struggled with our consistency on offense,” said MPCG head coach Ben McClenahen. “We weren’t able to knock down shots and were inconsistent for most of the game.”
