CARRINGTON, N.D. – Sydney Owens and Tiffany Kozojed wrapped up their golf season Wednesday, May 29 at the state B girls golf meet at Crossroads Golf Club in Carrington.

Owens shot a career-best 18-hole score on day two with a 10-over par 82 and earned a 16th-place finish at the state meet after firing a 31-over par 175.

The Hillsboro-Central Valley sophomore improved by 11 strokes from day one and shot a 3-over 39 on the back nine.

“She came out aggressive and relaxed,” H-CV head coach Garth Limke said about Owens’ mentality on the second day of the meet.

Kozojed shot a 20-over par 92 on day two and finished 23rd with a 36-over par 180.

The Burros junior was tied for 13th after she shot a 16-over par 88 on day one.

“Tiffany had a few rough holes but overall played some really solid, smart golf,” Limke said.

“Tiffany is the leader of our team and we are definitely looking for bigger and better things from her in 2020.”

The Burros bring back seven of their eight student-athletes next season, losing only senior Elise Jacobson, who graduated in May.

Eighth-grader Madison Olsen also returns and finished with Hillsboro-Central Valley’s third-best average (114.3) in her first year of varsity action.

“We had some young girls who stepped up and played some pretty good golf even though they don’t have a lot of experience around the golf course,” Limke said.

“If we can get these girls out on the course and playing this summer, good things will happen for our team in 2020.”

Limke added with more time out on the golf course, H-CV could be a contender at future state meets.
