BISMARCK, N.D. – Ezra Longthorne couldn’t move his arms above his chest.

After placing seventh in the long jump at the state Class B track and field meet with a mark of 20 feet, 7.5 inches on Friday, Longthorne spent Saturday morning in a chiropractic office waiting to have one of his ribs popped into place.

“I couldn’t even lay on my back and could barely raise my arm above my head,” Longthorne said. “I think it was from long jumping. Just landing on that side and I just busted it a little.”

Longthorne returned to the MDU Resources Community Bowl a few hours later and helped Hillsboro-Central Valley take second in the 4x200 and 4x400-meter races.

Later in the day, he continued to battle through the pain and took fourth in the high jump with a mark of 6 feet.

“The high jump was pretty painful,” Longthorne said. “But last meet of the year might as well push through it. I got a long time to recover now.”
