The broadcasters at KMAV Radio in Mayville have a solution for area sports fans feeling down in the dumps over the suspension of high school athletics.

The radio station plans to re-air a collection of games from its archives, including both Hillsboro-Central Valley state championship games in 2017 and 2018, starting next week.

KMAV sports director Dan Keating said the broadcasts could date back 20 years and serve as a way for the station to keep revenue coming in during the area’s sports drought.

“Our business is based a lot on broadcasting sports and who knows when we’ll have sports again,” Keating said Thursday.

Games will be aired featuring the Burros as well as Region 2 teams MayPort-CG, Thompson, Hatton-Northwood and Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page.

A definitive schedule of classic games hasn’t been released, but Hillsboro-Central Valley’s last-second championship wins in the state Class B boys basketball tournaments in 2017 and 2018 will be featured early on, Keating said.

Other games on the docket include MPCG’s state title win over Berthold in 2002 and H-CV’s regular-season game against Four Winds-Minnewaukan in 2018.

Station officials expect to release game times on the KMAV website (kmav.com) and post updates on Facebook and Twitter to let fans know when broadcasts from their teams will air.

Plans call for one game to be aired per night starting at 6 p.m., although a second game could be added if enough sponsors back the idea, Keating said.

“People in the area want to listen to sports and we’re seeing what we can do to keep the doors open,” Keating said. “We’ll be grateful for whatever people can do to help sponsor this.”
