HOPE, N.D. – Despite a late comeback bid, Hillsboro-Central Valley’s independent baseball season came to an end Tuesday.

The Blue Sox gave up five runs in the second inning and four in the third in a 11-5 loser-out loss to MayPort-CG Tuesday in the District 6 tournament.

H-CV struggled to get off the field in both innings, allowing all nine runs with two outs.

“For having a lot of younger guys in (MPCG’s) lineup, there isn’t an easy out,” said Blue Sox coach Nathan Walsh. “We had some chances, but we couldn’t get them out of some innings.”

Gavin Wright took the loss for the Blue Sox, going 2.2 innings and allowing eight runs (five earned).

H-CV’s pitchers struggled with their command in the matchup.

Despite striking out eight Patriots, the Blue Sox surrendered nine walks and eight hits to MPCG in the loss.

“We walked a couple of guys, and then they’d come up with some big hits and they’d jump on us,” Walsh said. “That’s what good teams do.”
