HARWOOD, N.D. – The MayPort-CG Patriots and Cass-Traill Blazers each went 2-2 in the 18U B division of the USA Softball of North Dakota state Junior Olympics tournament last weekend.

MPCG found itself in an early hole in the tournament, down 10-0 through three innings in its first tournament game on Friday night against Bemidji (Minn.).

The Patriots bounced back with their bats and defense for the final three innings, however.

MPCG pulled within three runs after putting together eight runs in the final three innings before the game was called for its time limit.

“I fully believed had we been able to play another inning, we could have pulled that game out,” said Patriots head coach Tim Spurgeon. “We were giving them a challenge and I think we could’ve at least tied it up and put it into extra innings.”

The double-elimination tournament put the Patriots on track for an early tournament exit, knowing another loss would end their run.
