There were injuries. There were turnovers. There were penalties and missed opportunities.

But there wasn’t a lack of faith and fight in high coach Scott Olsen’s crew Friday against No. 4-ranked Devils Lake at the Hillsboro Sports Complex.

As the cards began to stack up against the No. 1-ranked team in Class 2A, Hillsboro-Central Valley gutted out a 14-13 overtime victory over the Firebirds that extended its home winning streak to 21 games.

“What a catch and what a throw to finish the game off,” Olsen said. “Then getting Parker (Gallagher) in there with that extra point, it lost years out of my life.”
