Saige Forseth had no idea she was one hit away from a record.

On Monday, Hillsboro-Central Valley topped Shanley 13-3 in five innings in the Burros’ regular-season finale.

Forseth finished the game 1 for 2 with two walks and picked up her sixth win (6-3) in the circle this season after pitching a complete game with four strikeouts.

But it was the fifth triple of her junior season in the bottom of the first inning Monday that she’ll remember most.

“I did not have the slightest clue,” Forseth said Tuesday about breaking the Burros’ single-season record for triples. “I was shocked.

“I have had some back problems that have been holding me back the past week or so … I was in a slump and this is just the push I needed to start off the region tournament.”
