In Hillsboro-Central Valley’s first cross-country meet of the season, Reagan Baesler saw Hope Pringle of West Fargo take first on Baesler’s home course.

Baesler finished second in 19:13 while Pringle won the individual title in 18:45.

At the Anderson/Stavn Invite in Bismarck, N.D., on Saturday, Baesler got a little revenge.

Baesler, a senior, took second out of 131 runners with a time of 19:12 and finished 20 seconds ahead of Pringle.

“If she re-ran that race it’s very winnable for her,” H-CV head coach Kirk Zink said. “She looked strong. She looked confident and that was hard on Saturday because it was so hot.”

Senior Kelby Rinas of Mandan won the race (19:01) but Baesler ran alongside Rinas most of the race.

Patriots strong in 3K

Three MayPort-CG runners finished in the top 5 of the 3K race at the Central Cass Invite.

Sophomore Anna Strand took first (11:50). Seventh-grader Tatum Mehus placed second (11:55) and sophomore Isabell Parker was fourth (12:56).

“I didn’t think we were going to get a good 5K run out of anyone with the heat,” Patriots head coach Wendy Garrett-Mehus said. “All in all, I thought they did well.”

Up next for the Patriots is Saturday’s Milaca Mega Meet in Milaca, Minn.
