MAYVILLE – The flags were flying at Jerome Berg Field during MayPort-CG’s regular-season home finale against Enderlin-Maple Valley on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, the flags were on the field and not above it.

MPCG (7-1) piled up a season-high 11 penalties – including a costly hold that negated a second-quarter score – but still managed to grind out a 23-0 win over the visiting Falcons (4-5).

Patriots head coach Adam Sola praised his club for ending its Region 1 schedule on a win but said his team will need to clean up its act before opening the 9-man playoffs Saturday against St. John.

“It wasn’t pretty but a win is a win. I can’t be upset with a shutout,” Sola said. “But we need to stay out of the penalty department. That hurt us at times today and we can’t be doing that this time of year.”
