MAYVILLE – Abby McDonald scored four times and picked up five strikeouts in the pitcher’s circle to lead Kindred over MayPort-CG 19-7 Tuesday.

The Vikings (3-0) scored 11 first-inning runs off MPCG (1-2) right-hander Kylie Carpenter, who walked eight in the 18U North Dakota Impact League matchup.

Patriots head coach Tim Spurgeon said his club was solid at the plate Tuesday – MPCG scored at least two runs in each of the first three innings – but came out of the gate too slowly against the undefeated Vikings.

“This is a couple games in a row that we have gotten off to slow starts and the first couple innings got away from us,” Spurgeon said afterward.

“Trying to catch up on a team like Kindred is very difficult. We just need to defensively start better and pitch a little better (but) I was happy with the bats.”

Kindred plated 11 in the first inning off Carpenter before MPCG came to bat in the bottom of the frame.
