Hillsboro-Central Valley begins its quest for a third straight appearance in the Dakota Bowl at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The No. 1-seeded Burros (9-0) host the No. 4 seed from the West Region in Turtle Mountain (4-5) in a Class 2A quarterfinal matchup at the Hillsboro Sports Complex.

The Braves enter the contest with the worst record among all eight playoff teams and are coming off a 40-8 loss to Hazen. But after making the playoffs for the first time in 20 years last season, second-year head coach Jason Gourneau hopes that experience will help them against the Burros.

“The kids know that feeling now,” Gourneau said Tuesday.

“Now they know you have to win to move on so they’ve been focused and working hard. We have to play our game and not turn the ball over.”
