Hillsboro-Central Valley senior guard Carson Henningsgard has been named a Mr. Basketball finalist in North Dakota.

The North Dakota Associated Press Sportscaster and Sportswriter Association announced Henningsgard as one of seven finalists for the award Wednesday.

Henningsgard averaged 22.2 points and 4.6 rebounds his senior season and led the Burros to a 55-38 win over No. 2-ranked Hatton-Northwood in the Region 2 championship game March 12 in Grand Forks.

The two-time first team all-state selection was a state champion his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Burros.

“It’s a real honor for my name to be on the list with a lot of great athletes in the class of 2020,” Henningsgard said Wednesday.

“I wouldn’t have achieved anything without my family, all my coaches through the years and my teammates who surrounded me during my time here as Burro.”

Henningsgard, whose season remains in flux after the suspension of the Class B boys basketball tournament late last week, said being named a Mr. Basketball finalist was a personal milestone, but that he prefers team accomplishments more.

“There is no personal award that will top that feeling of winning a state championship,” he said. “I just hope this year’s team gets the chance at another one.”
