Rural BUXTON – For the first time in four seasons, Hillsboro-Central Valley’s boys basketball team fell to a Region 2 foe not named “Thompson.”

The second-ranked Burros lost 53-52 to Hatton-Northwood in front of a packed and raucous Central Valley School gym Tuesday night.

All-state point guard Carson Henningsgard led H-CV with 20 points but was held to seven through three quarters against the upset-minded Thunder.

“They just outplayed us,” said Burros head coach Elliot Rotvold. “They outworked us, they out-rebounded us, they out-defended us, they out-offensed us. They were just better than we were tonight.”

Hatton-Northwood, fresh off a loss to top-ranked Four Winds/Minnewaukan, was led by senior Avery Thorsgard with 15 points – nine of which came in the fourth quarter.

Thunder sophomore center Kelby Azure added 15 rebounds and kept Hillsboro-Central Valley from several second-chance opportunities on a cold-shooting night by the Burros.
