CARRINGTON, N.D. – After starting with a double- and triple-bogey on two of the first four holes at Crossroads Golf Course, Jake Heinitz needed to remind himself of something.

If Hillsboro-Central Valley was going to punch its ticket to the state Class B golf tournament, Heinitz was going to have to quickly turn his round in a positive direction.

“I was struggling with my driver at the beginning,” Heinitz said about his slow start at Friday’s Region 2 team qualifier. “I told myself I can do this and I need to play for the team.”

Heinitz finished his front nine 4-over par and fired an 18-hole score of 4-over par 76 (40-36) en route to a third-place finish.
