MAYVILLE – Sawyer Satrom tossed 5.1 innings and notched eight strikeouts but couldn’t lead MayPort-CG past Thompson on Wednesday.

The Patriots had a strong outing from their soon-to-be senior right-hander but couldn’t string together hits against Thompson starter Clay Odenbach and lost 4-1.

Wednesday’s independent league game at MayPort-CG High School was marked by 40-mph winds that gusted up to 55 mph, turning pop flies into an adventure for both teams.

“The boys played well for the most part but we needed to take advantage when we had runners in scoring position,” said Patriots head coach Taylor Kunkel.

“It’s tough trying to catch fly balls in 40-mph winds.”

Satrom gave up a double to start the game and Thompson scored a first-inning run on a sacrifice hit to second.

Thompson extended its lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning but Satrom shut the door with one of his eight strikeouts.
