THOMPSON – Landen Reed had 10 first-half points and Carson Henningsgard scored 17 of his 20 in the second half to lead Hillsboro-Central Valley to a 53-43 win over Thompson on Friday, Jan. 10.

The Burros (6-1) fell behind the Tommies (4-4) by 12 in the second quarter but stormed back before halftime to pull out a win over last year’s defending state champions.

“We scrapped and fought in that second half,” said H-CV head coach Elliot Rotvold.

“It was a battle. The longer you let a team stay in it, the more you have to battle all the way through to the end.”

The Tommies raced out to a 9-2 lead early in the first quarter after a trio of 3-point shots by guards Jacob Dick and Samuel Roller.

Reed kept the Burros close early on, scoring the team’s first eight points on two 3-pointers and a pair of free throws.

Thompson closed out the first quarter leading 17-10 and pushed its lead to 22-10 on back-to-back baskets by Roller.
