GRAFTON, N.D. – MayPort Area senior goalie Kade Susie sat on the ice for several seconds, staring into his net.

Landon Carter’s shot past Susie with 54 seconds left clinched a 4-2 Grafton-Park River win in an Eastern Dakota Conference boys hockey play-in game against the Ice Dawgs Saturday at Centennial Arena.

MayPort Area, the No. 10 seed, mounted a frantic comeback and scored a pair of goals after falling behind 3-0 but came up just short against the seventh-seeded Spoilers.

After the game, a choked-up Dave Bjugson praised the effort of his Ice Dawgs players – especially Susie, who finished with 33 saves in the game.

“Tonight’s probably the best I’ve seen him,” said the MayPort Area head coach. “He puts in the work, he’s a smart kid and I really didn’t expect anything less.”

Ice Dawgs senior Sammy Satrom netted both of his team’s goals, including the program’s first goal in an EDC game.
