Even though her team came from behind to win, Saige Forseth doesn’t look back fondly on her first game of the 2018 region softball tournament.

The Hillsboro-Central Valley pitcher got pulled from last year’s East Region tourney opener in Casselton after allowing seven runs in less than an inning against MayPort-CG.

“I remember feeling defeated and not wanting to walk out on the field the next day,” Forseth said. “I wasn’t pitching how I wanted to. I couldn’t get the ball across the plate.”

Forseth exorcised her 2018 demons in 2019, emerging as the staff ace of the Burros, who punched their ticket to the state Class B softball tournament Thursday in Fargo.

And, in storybook fashion, the junior right-hander found herself in the pitcher’s circle May 21 in a state-qualifying region game in Thompson against a familiar foe: MPCG.

The Patriots saw a different Forseth than the one they chased last year.
