KINDRED, N.D. – If the Cass-Traill Blazers didn’t believe the saying “the playoffs are the start of a new season” before, they certainly do now.

After losing late in a close game Monday to fall out of hosting a quarterfinal game in the Impact League playoffs, the No. 5 Blazers erupted for 19 runs on the road to upset No. 4 Kindred 19-11 on Tuesday.

“Thompson was kind of a hit and miss,” said pitcher Molly Knutsvig, who took the loss in Monday’s season finale. “It felt pretty good to come back stronger in this game and good that we came back together.”

Cass-Traill took control of the game early in Tuesday’s game.

The Blazers scored four runs in the first inning and eight in the second to build a big early lead.

“In our last couple of games we’ve really built on starting with energy and I think it finally clicked tonight,” pitcher Saige Forseth said.

Outfielder Katelyn Rude led off the game with a triple and remained there until No. 5 batter Noella Kritzberger doubled on a ground ball to center field with two outs.
