A handful of runs came between Hillsboro-Central Valley’s Babe Ruth baseball team and a chance to play at this weekend’s state tournament.

The Blue Sox took the No. 2 seed into the district tournament but, after getting upset by eventual champion MayPort-CG, fell 4-3 to No. 1 Thompson in an effort to advance to the championship.

The Blue Sox finished third.

The loss ended H-CV’s season at 13-12 overall, but the squad went 10-4 in official counters.

“The losses they had, they were all pretty close games and I think they felt like they can beat  anybody,” said Babe Ruth coach Benjamin Strand.

The squad was bolstered by its pitching, with five players who threw hard and effectively for the Blue Sox.
