Payton Beliles’ aggressive baserunning gave Hillsboro-Reynolds an early 1-0 lead over Nelson County in American Legion play Wednesday.

But the Blue Sox (7-4-1) weren’t able to stay ahead against the Owls and suffered a 5-3 loss at home in game one of a doubleheader.

The Blue Sox bounced back in game two after Braden Soderberg’s walk-off RBI single gave his club the evening split.

“Nelson County is a good team and we know we have to play well to beat them,” Blue Sox head coach Nathan Walsh said Wednesday.

“I really didn’t think we played poorly. We  just needed to come up with a couple more defensive plays and not leave guys on base. It’s coming and I can’t wait to see it all click.”
