Gavin Wright gave Mayville Post 8 a warning shot before smashing his first home run of the American Legion season Tuesday.

Hillsboro-Reynolds Post 4 fell to the Patriots 5-4 in the Blux Sox’s home opener after Wright and Connor Aanderud connected on home run balls.

In the bottom of the fifth, Wright’s bat flew from his hands and sailed over the Patriots dugout.

Two pitches later, Wright turned on a Preston Edinger pitch with a different bat to pull his team within one run, 5-4.

“It was so darn humid out, that even the grip on a brand-new bat wasn’t going to help enough,” Hillsboro-Reynolds head coach Nathan Walsh said.
