FARGO – After a heartbreaking loss in the state semifinals, Hillsboro-Central Valley had to face one of Class B’s premier pitchers in the third-place game Saturday afternoon  at Tharaldson Park.

Junior Erica Hermanson fanned 14 batters as Des-Lacs Burlington/Lewis & Clark defeated H-CV 19-1 in five innings.

Hermanson had double-digit strikeouts in two of the Lakers’ three games at the state softball tournament.

“I think that (Hermanson) is a hittable pitcher,” H-CV senior MacKenzie Iverson said afterward.

“But I also think that with her pitches, she got them to rise at the last second and that’s what was catching a lot of us off guard.”

The Burros tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning after Saige Forseth’s RBI double that scored junior Mattie Matthys.
