We’ve used the following Frank Kush story and editorial content in previous years – last year, to be exact – but it works again this year, considering Hillsboro-Central Valley’s unparalleled success at the state Class B track meet held in Jamestown last weekend.

The legendary Frank Kush, Arizona State University’s unapologetic and battle-scarred football coach of 60 years ago, seldom backed down or away from his proven and winning coaching philosophy.

His “take no prisoners” approach to coaching often was challenged by fans, the press and ASU alumni. In the end, Kush knew his Sun Devil football team stood behind him.

“They’d go over the cliff for me.”

Such is the case, we believe, in Hillsboro, where H-CV’s cross-country teams would more than likely go over the cliff for their coach, Kirk Zink.
